It was the Summer of 2004 and my
buddies and I were finally getting serious about our poker game. We'd
been itinerant poker players over the years, but now that most of us
were either getting married, already married, or married and starting
families, we knew that if we didn't establish a regular game pronto,
we'd miss our window of opportunity.
That first game was played on a hot July night in a downtown loft
apartment under less than ideal circumstances. If you're looking for a
poker table, then you may have had a similar experience.
The eleven guys who showed up that night played with mismatched
drug-store chips and worn cards atop a large glass-topped bar-height
cocktail table. From those far-from-ideal circumstances, a dream was
born. I knew we could do better.
Just as I did then, you may be searching the internet for a great poker
table. Sure, I could have bought a cheap table made from MDF -- that's
Multi-Density Fiberboard, and in terms of structural value, it's
marginally better than cardboard. And if I'd wanted a table built by the
finest labor that Chinese prisons have to offer, I would have stopped
there.
But I wanted a table that was more than just barely adequate. I wanted a
table that would stand the test of time, that would make my poker
buddies say "Wow!" With decades of woodworking and carpentry experience,
I knew that my dream was only as far away as my shop. I wanted a poker
table that was as close to perfection as possible, one that would do
everything. It had to be spectacularly useful, built to last, and look
phenomenal. Because that table didn't exist, I started building it.
What followed was nearly a year of trial and error, research and
development. Tools were added to the shop, new techniques learned and
refined. A first prototype table was built and tested. It's still in
frequent use today. From that table we made more design decisions and
built the first Widowmaker table. It was excellent, but heavier and
(frankly) over-engineered.
The second Widowmaker hit the mark spot on. From that table came in more
orders for Widowmaker variations, then the Kingmaker, then casino tables
for local cardrooms. We build custom tables, so no request came in that
we wouldn't fulfill. Our task on all of them was -- and is -- the same.
It's our mission and our goal with every Lone Star Poker Table: to build
the best poker tables in the world. Not a single table leaves our shop
unless we are convinced that it's as good as can be built.
We honestly believe that there is no finer poker table on the market
today. Our poker tables are solid works of fine craftsmanship. Using
solid hardwoods and the highest-quality veneers, we can custom craft a
poker table to suit any need and style.
One indication of the quality and originality that goes into each Lone
Star Poker Table is our unique style of cupholder, the Ultimate
Cupholder™. Our philosophy is simple: the table top is for cards and
chips, not drinks. Bottles, cans, and cups get in the way of dealing,
mucking, and scooping. Not to mention the inevitable spills that occur
when drinks are kept on the poker table. However, we sometimes like to
indulge an adult beverage while playing, too.
So the challenge was to accommodate these competing principles while
compromising neither. The result is the Ultimate Cupholder™, which can
be seen on the Widowmaker. The Ultimate Cupholder™ keeps your beverage
of choice right at hand, while still keeping it off the table. It limits
spills extremely well -- so much so that in almost a year since we
invented it, we've not seen one single spill on our own table, despite
frequent play with several guys who, in some circles, would be
considered poker slobs. In fact, the Ultimate Cupholder™ works so well
that we've even had a customer request that we build one for his desk at
work! The hidden beauty of the Ultimate Cupholder™ is that it slides
under the table when not in use.
The Ultimate Cupholder™ has spawned a sister, the Ultimate Chiptray™.
The Ultimate Chiptray™ also slides under the table when not in use, and
the integrated lock ensures that the chips are secured when you're not
using them. But when the game breaks out, all you have to do is unlock
the Ultimate Chiptray™ and you've got the chips ready to go. It even
stores 2 decks of cards so that everything you need to play is no
further from your game than the table itself.
It's this innovative approach that infuses every facet of our poker
tables, from the cupholders to the rail to the custom-printed cloth that
adorns nearly every Lone Star Poker Table. Custom dye-sublimated cloth
is feature that is original to Lone Star Poker Tables, and now we even
provide custom poker chips that match our original cloth designs. And no
matter what the product -- tables, cloths, chips -- we use only the
finest materials available, executed to perfection.
I'm sometimes criticized for being too perfection-oriented. I demand it
of our tables, from the raw lumber that we mill to the final finish and
upholstery. I demand it of our cloths and our chips. We sweat the
details because we only want to create the best. And I know that's what
our customers want, too.
How do I know that? Because if you didn't want the best poker table that
money can buy -- and the best value -- you'd buy the same cheap tables
made from hobby-store felt and cardboard that I passed up too. As you
can see from our testimonials, our customers are overwhelmed by our
tables. We'd love to build a table for you so that you can join them.
Dedication to quality craftsmanship, innovation, and originality are the
hallmark of Lone Star Poker Tables. We'd love to design and build one
for you today.
